His father is Daniel Verkulen and his mother is Hendrijn Classen.

Susan, Gerardus get his last name, from the first name from his father. We called that patroniem. The first name from his father is Daniel.

If you type verkulen, then you find his dead. I hope you understand me!

Daniels is a patronymic 'surname'. His father;s first name was Daniel, the children could either be called Verkuijlen (and variations) or Daniels (=child of Daniel)

Before 1811 you should be aware of the use of patronymics and often the mixing of 'surnames' in the same family. After 1811, many patronymics became permanent surnames. Be always aware that in one and the same family the descendants of one son could have used the surname Verkuijlen from then onwards and from another son perhaps 'Daniels'. Not necessarily..

It says that he was 'vijf en zeventig jaren, van beroep landbouwer, wonende te Cuijk , geboortig van Cuijk' [ in short: 75 years old according to the declarants [ a buurman (neighbour) and a knecht (in this case a farmhand)] , he was a farmer, was born - and living in Cuijk]

Thus...if Gerardus' age was correctly remembered by the declarants and the note is correct...you should search for his baptism around 1745 :)

3. Adrianus's parents were Petrus A Verkuijlen (1818-1890) and Catharina Van Lieshout (1835-1873).

4. Petrus's parents were Adrianus T Verkuijlen (1774-1845) and Theodora P van Oort (1774-1850)

5. I think Adrianus's parents were Theodorus G Verkuijlen and Johanna Wydeven. I know he had a brother Gijsbertus (1783-1859)

6. I think Theodorus's parents were Gerardus Verkuijlen (1710-1821) and Thedora Peeters (1715-1796) - you helped me confirm this.

Cuijk and Beers are 2 villages near by river Maas in provinve Northern Brabant, real Dutch, always been ! The so called province Southern Brabant is (later after 1839) Belgium. The Duke of Brabant, John/Jan, long ago (1200) was the boss of both of them. See Google Wikipedia.

Gerardus is baptised Cuijk 25.2.1743 as son of Daniel Theunissen and Hendrina/Hendrica Gerrits. Of the other children of Daniel are baptisewitnesses 1749 Sigisbertus Theunissen, 1744 Henricus Theunissen (x Cuijk 29.5.1732 Anna Michiels op de Nielt), in 1746 Antonius Jacobs (grandfather ?), 1747 Jacobus Theunissen.

It was jacoba Theunissen, who married in Cuijk; witness was Daniel Theunissen, therefore the hint. If you like to visit the baptism/marriage.death book of parish of Cuijk go to Stamboom, klik in trouwen/marriage after 1736, go to inzien register and you see the books 1730-1760. For Oploo search in the Baptism etc. Registers of the village/parish St. Anthonis. The registers of the parish of Oploo are starting ca. 1730. For Linden in the parish of Linden self or in Cuijk or Beers.

I am having trouble finding any information on Antonius Deenen/Gerits Deenen/Teunis Gerrits. He is the father of Daniel Theunissen Verkuijlen. We've covered Daniel above but I am trying to find information on his father and the birthdate of Daniel himself.

Daniel's baptism date is the 2nd of Feb 1716 as outlined by Jan on feb 28. He shoeed also that Teunis Gerrits married on april 26, 1704. Unfortunately I was not able to find more information on Teunis Gerrits, except for the fact that he was born in Linden.

This is what I have concluded:

Teunis Gerrits is married to Henrica P Sijbers and they had a son Daniel Theunissen Verkuijlen who was born in 1716 and died 1775.

Daniel Theunissen Verkuijlen is married to Hendrina Gerrits and they had a son Gerardus Daniels Verkuijlen who was born in 1745 and died 1820.

Gerardus Daniels Verkuijlen was first married to Theodora Peeters and they had a son Gijsbertus.

The problem is another of my forefathers is Adrianus T Verkuijlen born in 1774 and married to Theodora P Van Oort.

Adrianus is not the son of Gerardus Daniels Verkuijlen. It appears as though Adrianus is the son of Derk Verkuijlen.

Can you tell if Adrianus is the son of Derk. Derk is the son of Gerardus. Gerardus is the son of Daniel. Daniel is the son of Teunis?? The problem is I have a birthdate of 1750 for Derk and a birthdate of 1745. Obviously this is not possible.

I can not tell where I am going wrong. I know for a fact that Adrianus T Verkuijlen (1774-1845) is definitely my relative and I thought his father was Gerardus but how does Derk fit into this?

I do appreciate any time you can give me without too much work. You folks seem to do this so quickly and I must admit I probably have 8-10 hours trying to link up my forefathers.

Hendrina Gerrits is the wife of Daniel Theunissen Verkuijlen; she was born in Beers and she died april 24, 1790 in Cuijk and they married april 15, 1742 in Beers. Forget about Hendrina Classen, her name should not have appeared and was a false remembering of a witness as Jan Lange pointed out on february 22.
Some corrections:
Gerardus Daniels Verkuijlen was born February 25, 1742 in Cuijk.
He first married Theodora Peters in 1783 in Cuijk and together they got 2 sons:
The first one is the Gijsbertus you already mentioned; the other one is Theodorus Gerard (nickname Dirk) Verkuijlen, who was married with Johanna Maria Thomas (nickname Jennemis) van de Weijdeven. They had a son named Adrianus T. Verkuijlen, who was born in 1774 and died 1845. Adrianus' wife was Theodora van Oort (1774-1850). Their son was Petrus Verkuijlen (1818-1890), who is your forefather I guess. I have not come across the name of Derk.

Do you know the birthdate of Theodorus Gerard (Dirk) Verkuijlen?

Theodorus's dad (Gerardus Daniels Verkuijlen) was born in 1743.
Theodorus's son (Adrianus T Verkuijlen) was born in 1774.


Adrianus T Verkuijlen is the nephew of Gijsbertus Verkuijlen yet Adrianus was born in 1774 which is before his uncle Gijsbertus who was born later in 1783.

I forgot to give you the website that shows the parental of Theodorus Gerardus (nickname Dirk) Verkuijlen, who is probably the Derk you were referring to.

I got hold of the magazine "Genealogisch Tijdschrift voor Oost-Brabant" 1997 Nr 1 and nr 2. It contains a lot of information about the Verkuijlen family in Uden which completes the parental of Daniel's son Gerardus Verkuijlen as follows:

1 Gerardus Verkuijlen (Vercuijlen, Verkuilen, Theunissen, Daniels) is geboren op 25-02-1743 in Cuijk, zoon van Daniel Theunissen Verkuijlen (Vercuijlen, Verkuilen, Verkulen) en Hendrina (Hendrica, Hendrijn) Gerrits. Hij is gedoopt op 25-02-1743 in Cuijk. Gerardus is overleden op 03-05-1820 in Cuijk, 77 jaar oud. Gerardus:
(1) trouwde, 39 jaar oud, op 19-01-1783 in Cuijk met Theodora Peters, nadat zij op 04-01-1783 in Cuijk in ondertrouw zijn gegaan.

Petrus P Verkuijlen (1.1.3.8.2.1) is my GRANDFATHER. He was a gentle, wonderful man! He was born April 17, 1905 in Nistelrode and arrived in Quebec, Canada October 11, 1913. He settled in Appleton, Wisconsin in the USA which is where I am from. He married Maria Johanna Ludovica Wilhelmina Wigman (Mary VERKUILEN was her married name). They had five children. My father was the fourth child. My father's name is William John VERKUILEN born July 24, 1941 and died March 17,2003. My grandfather, Petrus P Verkuijlen died January 14, 1975. My grandfather, his wife and my dad are all buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton, Wisconsin.

My dad married Judith Ann Kolasinski (Judy VERKUILEN - married name) and had four children. I am the third child.

I love how all this connects. I am not sure if the information I gave you can or should be included in the Family Verkuijlen database included in your magazine. I'm not sure how that works but if more information on my relatives from Petrus P Verkuijlen is needed, I can provide.

Hi Susan, I am afraid something went terribly wrong as we based our findings on the wrong assumptions. The fact that you were looking for a Gerardus Verkuijlen (1710-1821), married to Theodora Peters and then to Allegonda Kertstens, caused that we were all put on the wrong track. Reason being that I noticed that the mentioned Gerardus Verkuijlen could not be the father of your forefather Theodorus Gerard (Dirk( Verkuijlen after I digged again into the genealogy of the Verkuijlen family out of Uden (as described in detail in this Magazine of Genealogy of East-Brabant, 1997, volume 1 and 2) and it appeared that this in fact is the family where you are coming from and here I found all your ancestors (except for William John) as follows:
William John Verkuilen (Appleton USA 1941-2003), son of Petrus P. Verkuijlen (Nistelrode 1905-1975 Appleton, Wi/USA), son of Adrianus Verkuijlen (Uden 1871-1916), son of Petrus A.
